Attesting to Who He is

I hear (and use) this phrase quite often: “All for His glory,” and I started thinking on what that means, so I began looking in the Word to see what the Bible says about it. This post will be the result of what I’ve found and how I’ve come to understand it better. Feel free to share your thoughts and/or leave a comment on my thoughts about this.

To start off, the ‘glory’ of God has several different meanings to it, such as His presence or, as I’ve found, the essence of who He is as God. When we ‘glorify God,’ we are declaring who God is. This is seen in Romans 4:20, where Abraham held on to the promise that God made him and, by faith, believed in Him and His promise. Abraham believed that the promise would come through and glorified God in the midst of a situation that seemed impossible (his wife’s old and age and barrenness).  We glorify God when we believe God in the midst of all the chaos and hold on to His Word despite what our circumstances look like.

God is also glorified through our salvation, when we begin to abide in Him and He in us. John 15:8 says, “By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples” (NKJV). When we do ‘good works,’ (which is not what saves us, but is proof that we are saved), we attest to everything that He is, since we do not have a ‘good’ bone in our bodies (Luke 18:19). The ability to ‘do good’ comes through the Holy Spirit living in us. Listening to His Spirit and obeying Him brings glory to God, our Father. Shining the light that is within us testifies to something (Someone) greater living in us, and when we do so, we bring glory to God in our fruits and good works (Matthew 5:16).
We have the glory of God living inside of us (which makes us all the more unstoppable), and when we reflect that glory, others will see it and give God His deserved glory.
Bouncing off the previous paragraph, God is glorified when we do things through His power and strength and the Holy Spirit living in us, instead of trying to rely on ourselves to do His will. 1 Peter 4:11 says, “If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen” (NKJV). God is the One who actually supplies the ability to minister to others, which looks different for everyone, but we cannot give ourselves the credit for being able to reach out to people and share the gospel. That credit belongs to God and God alone.

When we bring glory to Him, we are attesting to who He is and we are holding on to His promises. We trust and obey Him, regardless of what our lives look like. Our lives, through the power of the Holy Spirit, bring glory to Him when we put what we know into practice in our daily lives. When we abide in Him and allow Him to use us as a vessel, it makes it possible to glorify Him in all that we do. When we praise Him for His faithfulness, that brings glory to Him because we are recognizing that He is good, His plan is good, and that He never leaves or forsakes us. When we praise Him in the midst of hard situations, we bring Him glory by believing His promises to us, not focusing on how we feel in those situations. Rely on the Holy Spirit, remember what His Word promises, shine your light, do good to others, and your life will be a testament of Him and bring Him all the glory. He deserves more glory than my life could ever give. I cannot wait for the day when all we will be doing is glorifying Him and all He is to us. Be blessed, my friends.
