Following Him in Surrender

"They immediately left their nets and followed Him." (Matthew 4:20).

In context of this verse, Jesus had just been tempted by Satan (Matthew 4:1-11), and He was beginning His ministry in Galilee (Matthew 4:12-17). The verse that I picked out, never ceases to stand out every time I read it, so I started thinking about what that meant for the disciples in that time. They were working when Jesus called them, and they left immediately to follow this Man; left their families, their lives, their careers. It astounds me that they may not even have known Jesus, yet they chose to run after Him.

It got me thinking: why don't we do that? Why is it hard for us to leave our social media worlds, why are our hearts guarded when Jesus comes into our lives? Why can't we just drop everything and give our all to Christ? What stops us from running into His freedom? Imagine how free your heart, soul, and life would be if you gave your all to Jesus? All of your life, all of your heart, all of your time, all of your talents, all of your treasures, all of your relationships, all of your struggles, all of your triumphs; imagine running after Jesus and following Him with all that you are and letting Him heal those broken parts, letting Him be in the center of your life, every part of your life. Can you imagine it? If you think it's possible, I believe it is. This is the kind of life Jesus wants us to live. He wants us to be able to give Him everything and trust Him through it all. So, my question to you tonight is: will you immediately follow Him? After all, He gave all of Himself in order to have you in His life, and Him in yours. He wants to know everything, more than what your closest friends/family know about you. Will You accept His everything by giving Him your everything?
